Car accident causes power outages in Odesa

A catastrophic accident at a high-voltage substation in the Odesa region has resulted in emergency power interruptions throughout the regional capital, according to Ukraine’s Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.

Shmyhal said on Telegram that “the situation is serious, the accident’s scope is large, and it is hard to swiftly restore power supply, in particular to important infrastructure.”

He said that Russian missile assaults had previously destroyed the substation several times.

Around 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday, according to police, Manuel Hernandez, 30, crashed his pickup near 16th and Harless.

The driver damaged an electrical cable by slamming into a traffic signal.

Some surrounding homes lost power as a result.
