Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced a two-year exemption on mountaineering tax in a bid to promote tourism and adventure sports in the province.

According to the Director General of the KP Tourism Authority, the exemption applies specifically to peaks in the Hindu Kush mountain range, including the iconic Terich Mir, the highest peak in the range.

The year 2025 has been declared the "Year of Terich Mir" to commemorate the 75th anniversary of its first successful summit.

The tax exemption will be in effect from 2025 to 2026. Officials hope the move will encourage more climbers and tourists to explore the region’s majestic peaks, thereby boosting local tourism and economic activity.
