LAHORE: The Punjab government is considering closing educational institutions in flood-affected areas for one-week.
The decision was discussed during a meeting of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), chaired by Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman. Punjab Relief Commissioner Irfan Ali Kathia and DG PDMA also attended the meeting, while provincial ministers Khawaja Salman Rafique and Khawaja Imran Nazir participated via video link.
The meeting directed the immediate dispatch of “Clinics on Wheels” to flood-affected districts to provide healthcare services. It was further deliberated that schools in these areas may remain closed for a week as part of precautionary measures.
At the PDMA meeting, Nankana, Sheikhupura, Toba Tek Singh's river belt areas were directed to evacuate the areas while it was decided to crack on the Rivaz Bridge to save Jhang and Chiniot.
During the meeting, the Chief Secretary directed to establish tent village in the flood -affected areas, to ensure the delivery of necessary medicines on the medical campus of all districts.c
