The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced Pakistan’s fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi’s opening spell against their opening match against arch-rivals India in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup as the “Play of the Tournament.”

ICC shared the glimpse of the 21-year-old’s bowling during the first over in the epic clash and wrote: “The winner of the @Nissan Play of the Tournament from the 2021 ICC Men’s #T20WorldCup is: Shaheen Afridi’s blistering opening spell against India.”

Shaheen Shah Afridi, India’s first-strike destroyer at the T20 World Cup, stands at a towering 6ft 6ins (1.98m) and is the latest high-end product of Pakistan’s fast bowling factory — left-arm division.

The 21-year-old dashed India’s dreams with a breathtaking run of fast bowling, free of the burden of sharing the same name as one of his country’s greatest white-ball pioneers and inheriting Shahid Afridi’s number 10 shirt.

His 3-31 off four overs was the forerunner to Pakistan eventually breaking their World Cup jinx by defeating India for the first time in 13 attempts.
