Watch: South Carolina garbage can floats to Ireland

A garbage can from a South Carolina beach ended up on a beach in Ireland after floating 3,500 miles to the beach in Ireland.

In a Facebook post, the Myrtle Beach City Government reported that visitors to a beach in Mulranney, County Mayo, discovered a blue garbage can on the beach with Myrtle Beach labels still on it.

The language of an email from Keith McGreal, one of the persons who discovered the barrel, was included in the post.

According to the post of Myrtle Beach City Government stated, “That’s an amazing voyage for a trash barrel, although we’d prefer that it stayed put on our beach, rather than gallivanting all over the world via the Gulf Stream.”

They added, “I don’t think it’s possible to tell when it went missing, but it probably was during a wind or storm event.”

The city requested that the barrel be recycled, and the finders agreed.
