ISLAMABAD: Following the approval of President Asif Ali Zardari, the election schedule for the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly has been officially announced.
According to the notification, December 15 has been set as the deadline for the submission of nomination papers, while the list of candidates will be published on December 23.
The scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on December 30, and decisions on election-related appeals will be announced on January 10.
The final list of candidates will be released on January 11. Candidates will be allowed to withdraw their nomination papers on January 12, while election symbols will be allotted on January 13.
Polling across Gilgit-Baltistan is scheduled for January 24.
It is worth noting that the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly comprises 33 seats in total, of which 24 are filled through direct elections, while six seats are reserved for women and three for technocrats.
Earlier,Justice (Retd) Yar Muhammad Nasser has taken oath as the caretaker Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan.
The oath was administered by Governor Gilgit-Baltistan Syed Mehdi Shah.
The ceremony was attended by Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs Amir Muqam, Chief Justice Rana Shamim, former Chief Minister Haji Gulbar, and other senior officials.
Caretaker Chief Minister Yar Muhammad Nasser announced that elections in Gilgit-Baltistan will be held within two months.
Former Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan and the provincial cabinet completed their five-year constitutional term on 24 November 2025.
Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Assembly had dissolved on November 24, 2025 after completing its five-year term.
