Rudisha, former Olympic champion, lives through an aircraft disaster in Kenya.

“All was well close to seven or eight minutes into the flight when the engine of the plane suddenly went quiet,” he told.

“He (the pilot) saw some clear space where he tried to land the plane, but one of its wings hit a tree as the plane started to spin before landing on the rocky field. The pilot did an incredible job to keep the plane afloat and stable for long.”

Rudisha, a gold medalist from London 2012 and Rio 2016, is unharmed. While other passengers were taken to the hospital with less serious injuries but later discharged, Stephen Ole Marai, one of the other passengers, was undergoing medical care for rib injuries.

Rudisha had just returned from the annual Maasai Olympics held in the Kimana Wildlife Sanctuary in Kajiado county.

He has acknowledged that, having left the world of professional sports, he is considering making the switch to teaching.

A tyre blowout on the Nairobi-Kisumu highway in August 2019 resulted in his SUV colliding head-on with a bus. He avoided the crash by doing so.
