KANPUR: Indian cricket star Virat Kohli achieved a remarkable milestone on Monday by surpassing Sachin Tendulkar to become the fastest player to reach 27,000 runs in international cricket during the second Test against Bangladesh at Green Park Stadium.

Kohli accomplished this feat in just 594 innings, while Tendulkar reached the milestone in 623 innings. With this achievement, Kohli joins the elite company of former Australia captain Ricky Ponting and legendary Sri Lankan wicketkeeper Kumar Sangakkara, who are the only other players to have scored 27,000 runs in international cricket.

Before the start of the match, Kohli had accumulated 8,871 Test runs in 114 matches, averaging 48.74. In One Day Internationals (ODIs), he has scored 13,906 runs in 295 matches, boasting an impressive average of 58.18. Additionally, Kohli has tallied 4,188 runs from 125 T20 Internationals at an average of 48.69.

In a rain-affected match, Bangladesh ended Day 4 trailing by 26 runs, reduced to 26/2 in their second innings. Bangladesh resumed their first innings at 107-3 but could only add 119 runs, despite an unbeaten century from Mominul Haque, who scored 107 with 17 fours and a six.

In response, Indian batters displayed aggressive intent, with young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul leading the charge. Jaiswal hit 72 runs off 51 balls, while Rahul contributed 68 runs from just 43 deliveries. Kohli added 47 runs as India declared at 285-9 from 34.4 overs, leaving Bangladesh with a challenging 11 overs before stumps.

The touring team lost two wickets before the end of the day, with Ravichandran Ashwin trapping Zakir Hasan for 10 runs and bowling nightwatchman Hasan Mahmud for four. Shadman Islam (7*) and Mominul Haque will continue Bangladesh's second innings from 26/2 on the highly anticipated final day of the ongoing Test.
