Trump signs executive order for AI-Driven scientific advancement with "Genesis Mission"

President Donald Trump has signed an executive order establishing the “Genesis Mission,” an ambitious initiative aimed at harnessing artificial intelligence (AI) to accelerate scientific discoveries.

The White House describes AI as a critical battleground for global technological dominance and emphasizes the importance of this effort in maintaining American leadership. The order highlights the historic role of scientific progress in US development and calls for a “historic national effort” to meet modern challenges.

The Department of Energy (DOE) will lead the initiative, tasked with creating an integrated American Science and Security Platform. This platform will unify supercomputers at national laboratories, secure cloud environments, AI agents, predictive models, and access to extensive federally curated scientific datasets.

The DOE has been given a timeline of 90 days to map all federal computing and storage resources, including industry partnerships, and 120 days to identify key datasets and AI model assets. By 270 days, the department aims to demonstrate the platform’s first operational capability, marking a significant step toward AI-accelerated scientific innovation.
