Caracas: Venezuela has strongly rejected U.S. President Donald Trump’s warning to consider its airspace “closed,” calling it a colonial threat.

In a statement, Venezuela’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs described Trump’s warning as an illegal and unjustified attack on the country’s sovereignty, aimed at pressuring the Venezuelan people.

The statement added that this move is part of a continuing pattern of aggressive U.S. policies, including major military deployments in the Caribbean and the presence of the world’s largest aircraft carrier.

Venezuela emphasized that it will continue taking all legal and diplomatic measures to protect its airspace and territorial sovereignty.

President Trump had declared Venezuela’s airspace fully closed, raising alarm and concern in Caracas. On Truth Social, he warned airlines, pilots, drug traffickers, and human traffickers that the airspace over and around Venezuela should be treated as completely restricted.

According to U.S. media, officials were reportedly surprised by the announcement, with no known military operations planned to enforce the airspace closure. Both the Pentagon and the White House have yet to provide clarification.

Meanwhile, the Venezuelan government strongly condemned Trump’s statement, calling it a colonial threat against the nation’s sovereignty.
