Prince Harry talks about a moment when he read and wrote disparaging remarks about his family. In his book “Spare,” the Duke of Sussex omits the name of the author who used the term “pandas” to describe the blue blood family. “A writer many Britons adored, a writer of thick historical novels that picked up literary awards, had produced an essay about my family, in which she declared we were simply…pandas,” the author writes.

Harry goes on to explain why his dynasty was awarded the name, stating: “While our current royal family does not have the same reproduction challenges as pandas, both pandas and royal people are expensive to keep and poorly suited to any contemporary setting. Yet, are not they fascinating? These look good, do not they. I have always found this panda joke to be both sharply insightful and unmistakably barbaric.”.
