DVD specialist, Redbox recently announced that it would be ceasing the sale and rentals of video games at the end of 2019.

For years, Redbox’s rental kiosks served as an accessible and affordable option for people to rent movies and video games, and few physical copies of games were also offered.

The company told that it will be exiting the gaming rental business and will instead “focus exclusively on movies.”

While video game rentals are no longer available as Redbox kiosks, some locations will still offer discounted games that can be purchased outright before they are removed for good at the end of this year.

Redbox confirmed on Twitter that it will be transitioning out of the gaming service by the end of the year.

In a statement, a spokesperson reiterated that Redbox will be “permanently transitioning out of the games business,” but will still allow customers to purchase remaining games “through the end of the year.”

Also, unlike Redbox, a lot of these rental services like GameFly are mailing services, meaning you will have to wait for the game to be shipped to your mailing address before you can play it.
