ECC Approves PM’s Relief Package amid COVID 19

The Economic Coordination Committee has approved the Prime Minister Relief Package amid the coronavirus outbreak in Pakistan.
Adviser on Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh chaired ECC meeting in Islamabad and approved Rs 1.2 trillion corona relief package for the public amid the countrywide lockdown.
The ECC called with a single-point agenda of relief package that involved an additional fiscal impact of close to Rs550 billion on the federal budget.
As per the relief package announced by Prime Minister Imran Khan, the highest chunk of Rs288 billion will go to the Wheat procurement. It is worth to mention here that the wheat procurement is routine feature of the government expenditure which is being spent every year. This year however the government has increased the wheat procurement target by almost 50 percent from 4 million tonnes to 8.2 million tonnes. The second biggest allocation Rs200 billion will go to Daily Wages labour.
