The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has said that Pakistan needs nearly US $6 billion annual investment for water supply and sanitation in the country.

According to the details, ADB in its report titled “Asian Water Development Outlook 2020, advancing water security across Asia and Pacific”, said that the projected investment would account for around 2.3 percent of the country’s GDP.

ABD in its report maintained that the total annual estimated investment required over 2015–2030 to achieve universal access to safely managed water supply and sanitation services in Asia and the Pacific amounts to $198 billion per year.

The report added that neighboring China ($60 billion per year) and India ($22 billion per year) have the highest annual investment needs for water supply and sanitation.

The report added that water management is key for water security, climate resilience, and economic growth. A sustainable and inclusive economic growth in Asia and the Pacific requires managing water resources and mitigating water risk.
