KARACHI: The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) on Tuesday announced suspension of gas supply to all industrial zones in Karachi for an indefinite period.

In an official memo sent to all the industrial associations, the gas utility said the company was facing severe shortage in indigenous gas receipts from the fields due to general depletion. However, despite shortage, the company had managed to supply uninterrupted gas to the industrial zones.

“Now, one of the major fields, Kunner Pasaki Deep, is on Annual Turn-Around (ATA) for 21 days. The situation has become worse and top priority domestic customers are being affected,” the company said.

SSGC, in order to cater to the situation, is following the load management policy of October 2018, it said, adding that it has asked the associations to extend their cooperation by curtailing 100 per cent gas consumption starting from June 22, 2021 until further notice.

In another communication, the gas utility has reduced the gas supply to captive power plants of industrial units to 50 per cent. It requested the industrial associations to ask their members to reduce the captive power of general industry consumption by 50 per cent as of June 22, 2021 until further notice.
