ISLAMABAD: The Indian government is planning for the genocide of Muslims by discriminatory policies and acts of state-sponsored violence, similar to the Holocaust, according to the World Without Genocide organisation located in Washington, according to The News.
“I speak to you as a Jew,” said Dr Ellen Kennedy, the group’s founder and executive director.
What is occurring to Muslims in India now is beginning to resemble what occurred to Europe’s Jews 80 years ago.”
He was speaking at a congressional hearing on Tuesday about the US Commission on International Religious Freedom’s (USCIRF) decision to designate India as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) in its 2022 annual report for serious religious freedom violations.
Dr. Kennedy claimed that India’s increasing Hindu extremist movement had “generated anti-Muslim hatred, governmental support, and impunity for anti-Muslim violence,” drawing comparisons between India’s imposed statelessness policies and Nazi Germany’s Nuremberg laws.
“Violence against Muslims in India has increased in recent months to the extent where the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum has India ranked second in the world in this year’s Early Warning statistical risk assessment.”
Dr. Gregory Stanton of Genocide Watch warns that a genocide against Muslims is imminent in India. Professor Rohit Chopra, an academic and author, highlighted the Hindu supremacist ideology’s infiltration into all levels of government, traditional media, and social media. “What’s occurred is that the BJP has virtually melded with the Indian state… This is particularly concerning because it not only excuses or ignores violence, but rather encourages Hindus to commit acts of violence against Muslims as proof of being a good Indian and a good Hindu.”
#”Lower-level authorities have openly called for Muslim blood and gotten away with it,” he continued. “Hindu nationalists reject their Constitution… by devoting their lives to establishing a Hindu nationalist state in which Hindus have more rights than everyone else.” And they will do anything to carry out their discriminatory and violent policies, including prohibiting non-Hindu tourists from entering India,” stated Rev Peter Cook, Executive Director of the New York State Council of Churches.
Hindus for Human Rights’ Policy Director “USCIRF has made this suggestion for three years in a row, yet things are getting worse, not better, for religious minorities in India,” Ria Chakrabarty said. Hearings on India’s human rights are required by Congress. Congress can impose conditions on the economy by using its veto authority.
“Nearly every foundation of Indian democracy seemed to have collapsed under the weight of Hindu nationalism… If the US continues to act like an ostrich and disregard breaches of human rights and religious freedom in India, it would suffer enormously, according to Ajit Sahi, Advocacy Director of the Indian American Muslim Council.
Genocide Watch, World Without Genocide, Hindus for Human Rights, International Christian Concern, Jubilee Campaign, 21Wilberforce, Dalit Solidarity Forum, New York State Council of Churches, Federation of Indian American Christian Organizations of North America, India Civil Watch International, Center for Pluralism, and American Muslim co-hosted the briefing.
Meanwhile, a group of Hindu fanatics in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh has announced that on the night before Eid-ul-Fitr, they will hold an all-night Hindu ceremony known as a Jagran in a Muslim section of Meerut city. The mob, led by a Hindu extreme priest, was seen on tape threatening to detain the Jagran despite police telling them they didn’t have permission to do so.
Regardless of whether permission is granted or not, the Hindu priest in Meerut told the authorities that he will conduct the Jagran. Following a surge of violent anti-Muslim violence across India over a number of Hindu festivals, which saw mobs of armed Hindu fanatics attack Muslim properties and mosques, the threat to interrupt Muslim celebrations has been made.
Over 100 former civil servants, including former Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Najeeb Jung, former national security adviser Shivshankar Menon, ex-foreign secretary Sujatha Singh, and former home secretary G K Pillai, have written an open letter to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, criticising him for his silence in the face of extreme anti-Muslim sentiment in India.
“We are seeing a frenzy of hate-filled destruction in the country, where not just Muslims and members of other minority populations are being sacrificed, but the Constitution itself,” the letter stated.
“It is not typically our desire to express ourselves in such extreme words as former civil servants, but the unrelenting rate at which the Constitution is being destroyed compels us to speak out and voice our outrage and sadness,” the letter continued. “Your silence is deafening in the face of this massive societal menace.”
In other news, the Indian Army has taken down the Iftar Photo after a Hindu extreme leader referred to secularism as a “sickness.” According to reports, the Indian Army’s public relations officer gave in to Hindu extremist attacks on Muslim representation by deleting photographs from its Twitter account that showed an Iftar gathering and Indian servicemen praying alongside Muslim citizens.
Suresh Chavhanke, a vehement Hindu supremacist and Sudarshan News editor-in-chief, slammed secularism as a cancer in response to the tweet. “Has this disease now infected the Indian Army?” He tweeted, “Sad.”
The army’s PRO erased the images when Chavhanke was harassed, revealing how even official government bodies have succumbed to Hindu supremacists’ ugly mindset. Arfa Khanum Sherwani, senior editor of the Indian news portal The Wire, called on India’s secular forces and the progressive Hindu community to take a bold position against anti-Muslim bigotry. Sherwani stated, “It is now the Hindu community’s obligation to condemn those who are committing crimes against minorities in the name of Hinduism.”
“Muslims alone will not be able to defeat communal forces… Hindus must disassociate themselves from the communal movements’ narrative of hatred propagated in the name of Hinduism.”
Apoorvanand, a political analyst and Hindi professor at the University of Delhi, also chastised the ostensibly progressive Hindu Indians for their silence. Atul Kumar Anjaan, a senior leader of the Congress Party of India, condemned the BJP’s recent bulldozing of Muslim homes “a murder of constitution and law,” and urged secular forces to act “against the evil of majority or minority communalism.”
Meanwhile, the All India Muslim Personal Statute Board (AIMPLB) issued a statement criticising the BJP-led state of Uttarakhand’s decision to enact the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), which requires the creation of a law that binds all citizens.
