He said that Turkey’s troops “destroyed the terror corridor” that Syria’s Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) were attempting to establish, referring to Turkey’s four prior operations in northern Syria along the Turkish border.

In northern Syria, the Turkish army launched Operation Euphrates Shield in 2016, Operation Olive Branch in 2018, Operation Peace Spring in 2019, and Operation Spring Shield in 2020. According to Turkish officials, the operations aim to eradicate terror threats and create a secure zone to ease the return of Syrian refugees to their homes.

Erdogan stated on Wednesday that Turkey’s planned new military campaign in Syria will target the YPG in Tell Rifaat and Manbij districts in Aleppo’s northern metropolis before gradually expanding to other parts of the neighbouring nation.
