According to a spokeswoman for Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), the country’s flag carrier, eight out of 12 Boeing 777 aircraft are now in service and two more are undergoing maintenance.

In response to Senator Saleem Mandviwalla’s remarks on the national flag carrier, the PIA spokeswoman issued a comment. He claimed that Saleem Mandviwalla’s claim on the PIA wasn’t factually accurate.

The representative further stated that after carefully reviewing the information, national leaders should make pronouncements. He said that eight of the PIA’s twelve Boeing 777 aircraft were in operation, while two more were being maintained.

The announcement also mentioned that money had been paid out and that by the end of August, the remaining planes would be operational.

Due to a tax disagreement with the Federal Board of Revenue, PIA had been barred from using a newly purchased new plane for flying operations earlier in the month (FBR).

A disagreement over the duty payments on recently purchased new aircraft developed between PIA and FBR. The national airline has suffered a severe financial loss up to millions of dollars as a result of the tax issue.

The first Airbus A-320 aircraft of the four that PIA had purchased through tenders touched down in Islamabad on April 29.

The national airline was charged a sales tax of Rs410 million by the revenue institution for leasing the aircraft.

Given that the airline already pays $0.5 million in lease payments for each aircraft, the PIA management is having trouble making a lump-sum payment of the astronomical tax to the FBR.

After paying the sales tax, the airline will be permitted to use the freshly purchased aircraft for flight operations.
