Corolla Indus
In 1994, the automotive world witnessed a paradigm shift with the introduction of the 8th generation Toyota Corolla, affectionately known as the ‘Corolla Indus.’ This sedan, fronting a new design language and enhanced aerodynamics, held the spotlight for nine years, leaving an indelible mark on the industry.
Priced between PKR 470,000 and PKR 2,400,000 in Pakistan, the Corolla Indus redefined affordable luxury in its class, captivating the market with its blend of style and functionality.
The exterior of the 8th Generation Corolla Indus was a testament to Toyota’s commitment to design innovation. Angular headlights, a trapezium grille, and a sleek air intake adorned the front, while horizontal taillights graced the rear. A cohesive design language flowed across all variants, reflecting the restrained elegance synonymous with early-90s sedans.
Inside, the Corolla Indus boasted black plastic trim, fabric-covered seats, and variant-specific features. From air conditioning and power steering in the GLi to power windows, alloy wheels, and front fog lights in the SE Limited and 2.0D Limited, the interior seamlessly combined comfort with functionality.
Under the hood, the Corolla Indus offered versatility with three engine options:
1.3 Liter SOHC 12 Valve Inline-4
1.3 Liter DOHC, 16-Valve Inline-4
2.0 Liter OHC 16-Valve Inline-4 Diesel
Transmission choices ranged from 5-speed and 6-speed manual to 3-speed and 4-speed automatic, giving drivers the freedom to choose according to their preferences.
The Corolla Indus showcased remarkable fuel efficiency, averaging between 10 KM/L and 14 KM/L. With a 50-liter fuel tank, drivers could enjoy a driving range of 500 km to 700 km, combining power and efficiency in a compact sedan.
In the competitive arena, the Corolla Indus faced off against the Honda City 4th Generation and the Honda Civic Dolphin, setting the stage for a dynamic rivalry that fueled innovation in the automotive industry.
Engine specifications included:
1.3 Liter SOHC 12 Valve Inline-4: 82bhp@6000RPM
1.3 Liter DOHC 16 Valve Inline-4: 105bhp@6000RPM
2.0 Liter OHC 16-Valve Inline-4 Diesel: 74 bhp @ 4700 RPM
