Islamabad Traffic Police Introduces Streamlined Driving License Process

In an effort to enhance road safety and regulate traffic in the capital territory, the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has implemented a structured process for issuing new driving licenses. The process involves a combination of theoretical and practical assessments to ensure that all license holders are well-equipped to navigate the roads responsibly.

Learner Permit Stage:

All applicants seeking a permanent driving license for both motorcycles and cars are required to obtain a learner permit from the ITP. The learner permit, which costs Rs649, includes the necessary fees, including the NADRA fee.

What to Do Next:

After a 42-day period with the learner permit, applicants must visit the designated ITP office. They need to bring their original CNIC, a copy of their CNIC, and the learner permit. Upon arrival, applicants will be issued a token and instructed to wait for their turn.

Biometrics and Photo Process:

Once called, applicants proceed to the counter for biometric and photo processing. They are then provided with a test form, to which they must attach a copy of their CNIC and the learner permit.

Theoretical Test:

After completing the form, applicants take a theoretical test to assess their knowledge of traffic rules and regulations. A successful completion of this stage is necessary to proceed to the next step.

Driving Test at the Traffic Theme Park:

Applicants who pass the theoretical test are called to the traffic theme park for a practical driving test. This on-road examination evaluates their ability to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios.

Collecting the Permanent Driving License:

Successful applicants are then given a date to collect their permanent driving license. The ITP charges a fee of Rs 1,800 for both car and motorcycle licenses, ensuring a streamlined and efficient process for license acquisition.
