Oman, renowned for its rich cultural heritage and breathtaking landscapes, is venturing into the automotive sector with the launch of electric vehicles (EVs) by Mays, the country’s own electric car manufacturer. Mays is gearing up to introduce its first domestically produced model, the Alive 1, by the end of the year. Priced at USD 38,964 (Dh143,000), this five-seater EV boasts a range of 510 kilometers on a single charge and offers a 30-minute turbo charge option, as per information available on Mays’ website.

To curb manufacturing costs, Mays plans to locally manufacture various components for its EVs. Hamood Al Maawali, Oman’s Minister for Transport, disclosed that Gulf countries collectively aspire to roll out 22,000 electric vehicles by 2030 as part of their decarbonization strategy.

Additionally, Al Maawali unveiled plans to enhance Oman’s EV charging infrastructure, aiming for 350 public chargers along major roads by 2026. This concerted effort underscores Oman’s dedication to embracing sustainable transportation and reducing dependence on conventional fossil fuels.

Mays’ entry into electric vehicle production marks a significant milestone for Oman’s automotive sector and its pursuit of sustainable development. The introduction of the Alive 1 reflects the country’s commitment to adopting clean energy solutions and minimizing its carbon emissions.

With ambitious targets for EV adoption and investments in charging infrastructure, Oman aims to lead the way in electric mobility within the Gulf region and beyond. As Mays prepares to launch its locally manufactured EVs, Oman advances on its path towards a greener future, driving towards a cleaner and more sustainable tomorrow.
