Air Ticket Prices to Rise in Pakistan Amid New Stamp Duty!
Air ticket prices are already very high, and the Sindh government has added a new stamp duty on both local and international flights.
The federal and provincial governments have imposed heavy taxes to generate revenue for public services. These new taxes on luxury items, including flight tickets, aim to reduce income inequality by taxing higher-income individuals more and using the funds for public services.
A notification stated that the new stamp duty will be Rs 50 per ticket for domestic flights and Rs 400 per ticket for international flights.
All airlines, including some foreign carriers, are directed to collect the stamp duty on behalf of the Sindh government.
The initiative aims to generate substantial revenue for the province. Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah proposed taxes on air tickets, properties, and businesses, citing numerous challenges faced by the province over the past five years.
