Chicken and vegetable prices continue to increase
Chicken rates in Lahore and other Punjab cities have surged, reaching nearly Rs 485 per kilogram. This rise comes about a month after Eid, a period during which the consumption of other meats increased, pushing up the demand for chicken.
Local traders report that the price of broiler chicken meat per kilogram has risen to Rs 483. Over the last three days, the cost of broiler chicken meat has increased by Rs 99 per kilogram. This sudden hike in prices reflects the growing demand for chicken as other meat supplies are consumed post-Eid.
In the wholesale market, live broiler chickens are priced at Rs 321 per kilogram, while the retail price is set at Rs 333 per kilogram. Despite the fluctuations in chicken prices, the cost of eggs remains stable at Rs 250 per dozen.
The recent increase in chicken meat prices highlights the fluctuating demand and supply dynamics in Punjab. Consumers are feeling the pinch as they adjust to the higher costs of essential food items, especially chicken, which is a staple in many households. This trend of rising prices may continue if the demand for chicken remains high and supplies do not meet the needs.
