Chinese Companies Plan Petrol-to-Electric Car Business in Pakistan
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah met with a delegation of Chinese investors, led by the Chairman of the Belt and Road (B&R) Group, Mr. Wan Xiaowu, to discuss potential private investments in the city.
The meeting was attended by Minister for Planning & Development (P&D) and Energy, Nasir Shah, Minister for Local Government, Saeed Ghani, P&D Chairman, Najam Shah, and Secretary to the CM, Raheem Shaikh.
During the discussion, the Chief Minister expressed his government’s openness to Chinese public and private firms investing in Sindh. He offered opportunities for direct investments or public-private partnerships with the provincial government.
Mr. Wan Xiaowu highlighted that over 12 leading Chinese companies are keen to invest in various sectors in Karachi, including energy projects, wastewater treatment, desalination plants, electric bus manufacturing, conversion kits for petrol motorcycles to electric, and sewerage system upgrades.
The Chief Minister assured the delegation that all necessary support would be provided to facilitate the establishment of their plants. Both parties agreed to hold further meetings with the Planning & Development Department and the Board of Investment to finalize project details and begin negotiations.
