Beijing cancels flights, shuts schools as new wave of COVID-19 outbreaks

More than 1,200 flights canceled in Beijing’s airport and almost every school was closed again on Wednesday as the new wave of Coronavirus breaks into the country’s capital linked to a wholesale food market.

On Wednesday, 31 new COVID-19 cases were reported in the city. The officials requested residents not to leave Beijing, with fears growing about the second wave of the deadly virus.

Tens of thousands of people linked to the latest Beijing virus cluster- suspected to have originated on the vast wholesale market of Xinfadi – are being tested, with nearly 30 residential compounds in the city now under lockdown.

According to details, at least 1,225 scheduled flights were canceled on Wednesday morning, nearly 70 percent of the flights of all trips to and from Beijing’s main airports.

The latest outbreak had made the authorities to announce a travel bam for residents of ‘medium-or high-risk- areas of Beijing while requiring other people to take tests of nucleic acid to leave the city.

However, many provinces were already quarantining travelers from Beijing. All the schools, which were reopened with strict SOP’s, have been closed again in order to save children to get affected by the virus.

On Tuesday, Beijing city spokesman Xu Hejian warned people,

“The epidemic situation in the capital is extremely severe.

Beijing’s officials have shut down 11 markets and disinfected thousands of food and beverage businesses after the Coronavirus outbreak was detected. According to the municipal health commission, the city has now reported 137 affected people over the last six days, with almost six new asymptomatic cases and three on Wednesday.
