Inter and Matric students will be promoted without examinations

Education Minister of Sindh Saeed Ghani has announced that inter and matric students will be promoted without examinations due to ongoing coronavirus.

Addressing news conference Sindh Education Minister announced that there will be no examinations for inter and matric students due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

The education minister said that board examinations will also not take place.

“We will introduce an amendment to existing laws to promote students to the next grade,” he said adding that the decisions have been taken by the provincial steering committee on education. “We will collect students’ data so that children can be promoted and do not face difficulties in securing college admissions.”

He also said the students will be rewarded with three percent extra marks based on previous academic record.

Earlier Sindh Government announced that Grade 1-8 students will be promoted on the basis previous academic record.

“In case, it is just one or two subjects students have failed, schools will be allowed to take their exam in that particular subject and let them pass,” Sindh education minister Saeed Ghani said in a press conference. Saeed Ghani has said that schools in the province will not be opened from June 1, as opposed to the provincial government’s earlier announcements. Federal government’s decision to promote students of Grades 9-12 had some complications, which were also acknowledged by the Centre.

He pointed out that the law pertaining to board exams do not allow the promotion of students who have not appeared. In order to do so, the law will have to be amended. Ghani said that a committee has been formed to ponder over the issue and its recommendations will be passed on to the federal government.
