On Tuesday, the Senate Committee for Human Rights approved the long-awaited release of Sarmad Khoosat’s movie Zindagi Tamasha, ignoring all objections raised earlier against it.

Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar of PPP, who heads the panel, recently tweeted that the committee found nothing wrong with the film, adding the censor board has allowed to release it after coronavirus pandemic end. He wrote,

“Senate HR committee has unanimously agreed with Censor board’s decision to allow screening of the movie “Zindagi Tamasha”.We’ve found nothing wrong with it.”

Khokhar added,

“The Censor board has our go-ahead to release post-Covid. Detail reasoning to follow later.”

The federal government issued directives on 21 January to postpone the film’s release. In a statement, Firdous Ashiq Awan said the producers were guided to postpone the film, adding that the government would approach the Council of Islamic Ideology immediately for their views on the film.
