Films such as Dumbo, Peter Pan, and The Jungle Book now shows a warning about stereotypes when played on the Disney+ streaming service.

The warning mentioned, “This programme includes negative depictions and/or mistreatment of people or cultures,”

“These stereotypes were wrong then and are wrong now.”

The message further mentioned, “We want to acknowledge its harmful impact, learn from it, and spark conversation to create a more inclusive future together” rather than move the content.

According to BBC, films to carry the warning message are The Aristocats, which shows a cat in “yellow-face” playing the piano with chopsticks, and Peter Pan, where Native Americans are referred to by the racist slur “redskins”. In addition to this, Lady and the Tramp will also carry the warning because of various instances of racism and cultural stereotyping.

The advisory had earlier added the warning about racism last Month. The warning read,  “This programme is presented as originally created. It may contain outdated cultural depictions.”

Some movies, including the Song of the South, are not available on Disney+ due to racism.

Warner Bros had also issued a warning regarding “ethnic and racial prejudices” in some of its cartoons.

“While these cartoons do not represent today’s society, they are being presented as they were originally created, because to do otherwise would be the same as claiming these prejudices never existed,” the Warner Bros warning says.
