Asif Mehdi, son of Ghazal Maestro Mehdi Hassan, has died after facing a long period of illness.

His son reported that his father had been suffering from diabetes and a kidney disease since a long time. He said that his father Asif Mehdi had died due to a lung infection.

According to his son, Asif Mehdi had been undergoing treatment at the Aga Khan Hospital since nine days due to a lung infection.

The son also mentioned that he was shifted to his house from the private hospital when he breathed his last breath.

Asif Mehdi was the initiator of the Mehdi Hassan Foundation, which aims to bring classic singing and music back in the country.

Asif Mehdi’s father, Mehdi Hassan was titled “Shehenshah-e-Ghazal” in Pakistan as well as across the border in India.
