KARACHI: Music fans, including traditional Qawwali lovers, are celebrating the famous singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan‘s 24th death anniversary. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, who was born in Faisalabad on October 13, 1948, was well-known not just in Pakistan but throughout the world. He mostly sang in the Qawwali form of Islamic devotional music. He died at the age of 48, having established himself as one of the world’s most talented vocalists.

In 1964, the young man moved on to vocals after learning the tabla. His father died, leaving his musical education in the hands of Mubarak Ali Khan and Salamat Ali Khan, his paternal uncles.

Nusrat Fateh’s songs are still popular among his admirers and young people, and they have helped to define the art form of Qawwali for future generations. The majority of his followers are from Pakistan and India, where he has performed in various films and albums.
