San Francisco: Disney announced Friday that all of its films set for release by the end of the year will be exclusively displayed in theatres first, providing relief to theatres eager to re-engage with audiences following the coronavirus pandemic that destroyed their sector.

The animated picture “Encanto” will be released on November 24 in theatres but will not be available on Disney’s on-demand video channel until December 24, according to the corporation.

Other planned films, such as Ridley Scott’s “The Last Duel,” Marvel Studios’ “Eternals,” and Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story,” will be played in cinemas for at least 45 days before being released elsewhere.

Traditional theatres were eagerly awaiting the verdict after Disney recently elected to distribute a succession of blockbuster movies on its Disney+ network, taking some of their revenue, such as “Black Widow,” “Jungle Cruise,” and “Cruella.”

Scarlett Johansson, star of “Black Widow,” has filed a lawsuit against Disney, alleging that the firm breached its contract and defrauded her of millions of dollars in box office income after releasing the picture on its video platform.

Disney used to produce entertainment for both cinemas and television networks, but because to the pandemic, it now has direct access to its audience via streaming.

Disney CEO Bob Chapek stated in mid-August that he prefers “flexibility” and the freedom to “follow the consumer wherever he goes.”

“When theatres reopened, there was enormous hesitation from the public to return,” he stated during a presentation of the company’s financial performance.

Warner Bros. Studios has also been chastised for deciding to distribute all of its new films on HBO Max for the remainder of the year.
