Acclaimed Bollywood singer, Adnan Sami has been honoured with the Padma Shri, Indian National Award on Monday in a ceremony held at Dehli’s Rashtrapati Bhavan (President House).

Adnan was a Pakistani musician, who became an Indian citizen in 2016, honoured by Indian President Ram Nath Kovind. Along with the singer, other Bollywood personalities Kangana Ranaut, Karan Johar, Ekta Kapoor, and late singer SP Balasubramaniam are also included in the recipient list of Padma Shri.

The former Pakistani singer wore a black sherwani with gold embroidery and beamed with pride after receiving the National Award.

Furthermore, when the Padma Shri recipient list was revealed in January, he was heavily chastised, with the Nationalist Congress Party calling it an “insult to 130 crore Indians.”

In the response, the singer had said, “The people who are criticizing are some minor politicians. They are doing it because of some political agenda that they have and it has nothing to do with me. I am not a politician, I am a musician.”
