Lata Mangeshkar, Dilip Kumar to remember at 2022 Oscars

In the 2022 ceremony, the Oscar’s In Memoriam – which honors famous members of the worldwide cinema business who have died away – paid tribute to Sidney Poitier, Ivan Reitman, Betty White, and William Hurt, among others.

However, two great South Asian filmmakers who died lately went unmentioned.

Throughout their lives, Dilip Kumar, 98, and Lata Mangeskar, 92, made important contributions to the film and music industries.

The former was recognized for his method of acting, and films such as Mughal-e-Azam and Devdas genuinely raised the standard for outstanding performance.

The latter, called “India’s Nightingale,” has sang songs for over a thousand films and won several honors.

On social media, fans voiced their disappointment that these two luminaries were not included in the list.

Taking to Twitter, one of the ardent fans wrote, “Shame that TheAcademy didn’t pay homage to the two all-time greats – Lata Mangeshkar & Dilip Kumar.”

Another user proclaimed, “Lata gave vocals to more songs than shown in all Oscars combined. Yet, the #Oscars2022 #Inmemoriam did not see it fit to honor her even with a mention. Sometimes, I think, colonialism still lives on…”
