Riz Ahmed stated that Oscars excluding specific prizes from the 94th Academy Awards presentation should not detract from the winners’ joy.

During a backstage interview after winning his first Oscar for his outstanding performance in The Long Goodbye, Ahmed expressed his wish that the controversy does not ‘become the storey.’

The prestigious festival’s 2022 ceremony decided not to telecast the Best Production Design, Best Editing, and Best Sound prizes, provoking a major protest from the film industry.

Meanwhile, Ahmed’s Short Film (Live Action) victory was announced before of time.

He said during his speech, “In such divided times, we believe that the role of story is to remind us there is no ‘us’ and ‘them’. There’s just ‘us’.”

“This is for everyone who feels like they don’t belong. Anyone who feels like they’re stuck in no man’s land. You’re not alone. We’ll meet you there. That’s where the future is. Peace,” he added.
