Princess Charlene of Monaco was unable to attend Prince Philip’s memorial service in London, even though her husband, Prince Albert of Monaco, was present.

Charlene, who recently returned to Monaco after seeking treatment at a Swiss clinic for an unknown illness, was apparently unable to attend since she is still recovering from her mystery sickness.

The 44-year-return old’s to Monaco was officially confirmed earlier this month in a statement made by the Prince’s Palace of Monaco, which stated that Charlene will now reside in the Principality of Monaco.

The statement read, “continue her convalescence in the Principality with her husband and her children by her side.”

The statement also said: “The next few weeks should allow for Princess Charlene to further strengthen Her health before gradually resuming Her official duties and commitments.”

“In order for Princess Charlene to achieve a full recovery and as she still needs peace and calm, the Princely Couple therefore asks that their private life and family environment continue to be respected,” it further read.

A source close to the Palace told AFP in late November 2021 that Princess Charlene was seeking specialised therapy for excessive exhaustion at a discreet facility outside the principality.

In September, Charlene had surgery in South Africa after collapsing as a consequence of complications from an ear, nose, and throat infection.
