Queen Elizabeth was not present for the Commonwealth Day ceremony yesterday, but she promised to keep the pledges she made when she assumed the throne.
Her Majesty declared in a statement to honor Commonwealth Day that her life will “always be committed to service,” after being forced to miss Monday’s traditional church service to mark the occasion.
“In this year of my Platinum Jubilee, it has given me the joy to reiterate the vow I made in 1947, that my life would always be committed in service,” the queen promised in her annual statement.

Buckingham Palace stated yesterday that the decision to not attend was made owing to worries about the hardship of traveling from Windsor Castle to west London.
Meanwhile, according to the Mail on Sunday, palace officials are putting up specific preparations to allow the Queen to attend Philip’s service in comfort.

The late Duke of Edinburgh’s thanksgiving service had already been shortened to 50 minutes at the end of this month.
If Her Majesty is able to attend, a side door may be used to spare her from having to go too far.
