Prince William stated on Friday that the Royal Family will support Bahama’s future actions.

The future king made the remarks on the third stop of a Caribbean trip that has sparked outrage in a region that is increasingly considering its future relationship with the British monarchy.

The Duke of Cambridge mentioned the forthcoming 50th anniversary of the former British colony’s independence from Britain while speaking at a banquet held by the Governor-General of The Bahamas in Nassau.

“And with Jamaica commemorating 60 years of independence this year and Belize 40 years,” William continued, “I want to say this: we support with pride and respect your decisions regarding your future.”

“Relationships evolve. Friendship endures.”
