The Attorney General’s Office of Colombia announced in a statement on Saturday that an official cause of death is still pending.

A toxicology study for late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins reveals that the musician had a variety of chemicals in his system at the time of his death.

“The toxicology test on urine from Taylor Hawkins’ corpse preliminarily detected 10 types of chemicals, including THC, tricyclic antidepressants, benzodiazepines, and opioids,” the Colombian Attorney General’s Office said in a statement (translated from Spanish) on its Twitter account on Saturday.

“The National Institute of Legal Medicine is continuing medical research to fully determine the cause of death for Taylor Hawkins,” the statement stated. In addition, the Attorney General’s office will continue its own inquiry.

Hawkins’ untimely death at the age of 50 was revealed by the Foo Fighters on social media late Friday night.

Hawkins declined to address a question regarding sobriety during his last in-person interview with Rolling Stone in June 2021, telling the publication at the time, “I simply lead a pretty healthy lifestyle.”

“I’ve been down that path with folks so many times, and it’s become a thing,” he explained. “That’s been a major theme throughout my life. It’s almost as if my tale, and the band as well, are my huge f—ing f—up in London 20 years ago.” (After overdosing in 2001, the drummer went into a two-week coma.)

He also stated that he did not want the issue to become the “centrepiece” of his narrative.

“I don’t want to talk about it, and I don’t want my kid to read it,” he said. “Listen, I understand if you have troubles and your f—ing life is a shambles. I’ve been there many times in my life, so I understand.”

Hawkins and his bandmates, Dave Grohl, Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett, Nate Mendel, and Rami Jaffee, were scheduled to play at the Festival Estéreo Picnic in Bogotá on Friday. The organisers did, however, confirm that the headliners would not be present due to a medical issue.
