ACADEMY Awards organisers approached Prince Harry and his wife Meghan last year about presenting the Best Picture award.

According to sources, executives went to great lengths to make the offer appealing.

“Netflix was incredibly keen for their two big-name signings to be involved with this year’s Oscars,” a source said.

“For the first time ever, streaming services, particularly Netflix, have a chance to sweep the awards.”

“What better endorsement could there be than Meghan being up there on stage?”

“What a way to justify a £112 million salary.”

“Because Meghan is a huge supporter and champion of women, Best Actress was an obvious category for her.”

“Unfortunately, as soon as Kristen Stewart was nominated, she knew she couldn’t go on stage and risk handing over an award to the woman who played her husband’s late mother.”

“As a result, that plan was shelved.”
