THE QUEEN, Princess Anne, and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall all wore dark green to Prince Philip’s thanksgiving service today, for a very poignant reason.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s official livery colour was dark green, which he wore until his death in April at the age of 99.

“The Duke of Edinburgh’s official livery colour is dark green, known as ‘Edinburgh Green,'” according to the royal family’s website.

“It’s been used for staff liveries – the Duke of Edinburgh’s page at the Coronation wore dark green and silver – as well as private cars.”

Her Majesty, 95, also paid a heartfelt tribute to her late husband, wearing a special brooch he gave her over fifty years ago.

Senior royals, charity workers, and foreign royals gathered in Westminster to remember the Duke of Edinburgh.

Among those in attendance were Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince George, and Princess Charlotte.

Zara Tindall and her husband Mike arrived with their daughter Mia, as did Peter Phillips and his daughters Savannah and Isla.

Princess Anne, Philip’s daughter, stopped to speak with Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award holders and members of youth UK Cadet Force associations who were invited by Philip.

Her Majesty arranged for Prince Philip’s Thanksgiving Service to be held at Westminster Abbey after his funeral was postponed due to Covid last year.

The Duke of Edinburgh, 99, was laid to rest last spring, when singing was prohibited and attendance was limited to only 30 people due to Covid regulations.

Today’s memorial service, on the other hand, is a more upbeat affair, with the Queen said to have been “actively involved” in the day’s planning.

Her Majesty chose to include the flowers she and Philip had on their wedding day – white orchids – in the service as a particularly personal touch.

The flowers for the day are in the colours of the Union Jack flag: red, white, and blue.

Smaller posies include red freesias, alstroemeria and spray roses, white dendrobium orchids, freesias and Eustoma, and blue iris and eryngium.

Larger floral arrangements feature red roses, carnations, and Gerbera, white roses, Eustoma, and large white chrysanthemums, as well as blue agapanthus, delphinium, and eryngium [also known as sea holly].

In 1947, orchids were used in The Queen’s wedding bouquet.

Meanwhile, Majesty Magazine reports that sea holly is a touching nod to the Duke of Edinburgh’s naval career.

As part of Philip’s wishes, Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award holders and youth UK Cadet Force associations will line the steps today as the 1,800-strong congregation arrives.
