Chris Pine, well known for his roles as Captain James T. Kirk in ‘Star Trek Beyond’ and action hero Jack Ryan in ‘Jack Ryan,’ says the thriller film ‘All The Old Knives’ reminded him of John le Carre’s novels and vintage spy movies.

“The script reminded me of John le Carre’s novels and classic spy films,” Chris, who plays a CIA agent in the film, said in a statement. “‘All The Old Knives’ has a cracking plot with great twists and turns, and part of it took place in Europe in the winter, which always strikes me as desperately romantic and a little bit sad at the same time.”

“It also touched on terrifying issues like terrorist attacks that are currently occurring throughout the world, and I thought it handled that material in a really genuine manner.”

Pine’s character is charged with investigating an eight-year-old hijacking case in the film. “Like all excellent spies, he’s emotionally locked off and very good at his job because of it,” he said, describing his character as a man proficient at compartmentalizing his feelings.

“Part of that is due to what happened to him early in his CIA career, so he’s always carrying a great sense of guilt and humiliation within him,” Pine concluded.
