Although Kate Middleton’s family became close to the royal family after her marriage to Prince William, it turns out that her family had been mixing with royalty even before she met William!

Captain Peter Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge’s grandpa, was identified in an ancient, rare photo of Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, from his trip to South America in 1962, according to a My London report.

The photograph depicts Philip standing next to an airplane, with Kate’s grandfather in the background serving as the Duke of Edinburgh’s co-pilot.

In truth, Peter Middleton fought in the Royal Air Force as a fighter pilot during WWII and died in 2010, just days before Kate and William announced their engagement.

Although Kate and William are 14th cousins once removed, there is very little chance that they will share genetics in the near future.
