When “Iron Man” was initially released in 2008, no one could have predicted that a company that didn’t even own the rights to Marvel’s most popular characters would create the largest shared world in modern pop culture. We now have a large universe full of fantastic characters, interwoven movies and TV episodes, and the bonding experience of exchanging wild theories across the internet more than a decade later.

Marvel has a large number of films and television shows, with many more on the way. It can be difficult to keep track of all of the wonderful stories, especially those involving time travel, flashbacks, and the multiverse. We’ve compiled this helpful list to help you decide on the “proper” watch order for your Marvel favourites (based on release date or in-universe chronology). While several of the films and series on this list have substantial moments set in the past (for example, prologues or interspersed flashbacks), we’ve organised the list by when the majority of the plot occurs.
