In the official trailer for Season 4, the “Stranger Things” kids are all grown up and at battle with the creatures of the Upside Down.

The trailer opens with Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), and Max (Sadie Sink) entering high school, while Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and Will (Noah Schnapp) are in California. As the companions navigate their various environments, a new otherworldly menace emerges, forcing them to face the horrors of the Upside Down once more.

“A war is coming. Your friends in Hawkins are very much in the eye of a storm,” Eleven is warned. “I don’t know how to say this other than just to say it — without you, we can’t win this war.” Cue the title cards: “Every ending has a beginning.”

Hopper (David Harbour) is discovered to be alive, but in poor health, as he is imprisoned in Russia and forced to combat a Demogorgon alongside a motley crew of soldiers. In the last seconds of the video, we see what appears to be the season’s main villain: a human-Demogorgon hybrid with the ability to talk.

New episodes of the smash-hit Netflix series, which follows the residents of Hawkins, Indiana as they battle mysterious events, were released in 2019. Season 3 ended with a series of upheavals for the show’s core characters, including the death of police chief Jim Hopper (David Harbour) and the Byers family’s departure from town.

Filming for the fourth season was supposed to start in early 2020, but the COVID-19 outbreak caused significant delays. Netflix has published several teasers for the fourth season throughout the last year. The first, which was released on February 14, 2020, indicated that Hopper had survived the Season 3 climax and was now imprisoned in Russia. Other teasers have depicted Eleven (Millie Bobbie Brown) being committed to a mental institution, a group of characters visiting an abandoned mansion, and the Byers settling into life in California.

Matt and Ross Duffer, the show’s creators, announced on Feb. 17 that the fourth and penultimate season of “Stranger Things” will be broken into two parts. Season 4 will have a runtime nearly twice as long as any prior season, with nine episodes. The Duffers did not say how many episodes would be included in each volume or how long each episode would be on average. They also stated that the show has been renewed for its fifth and final season.

“Stranger Things” has a large ensemble cast, with Winona Ryder, Joe Keery, Natalie Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Maya Hawke, Cara Buono, Priah Ferguson, and Brett Gelman all returning from previous seasons, as well as Winona Ryder, Joe Keery, Natalie Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Maya Hawke, Cara Buono, Priah Ferguson, and Brett Gelman. This season, Jamie Campbell Bower, Joseph Quinn, and Eduardo Franco join the cast. Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen, Iain Paterson, and Curtis Gwinn are among the executive producers.

The first volume of Season 4 of “Stranger Things” will be released on May 27. On July 1, the second part will be released.
