Lionsgate and Amazon Studios have confirmed a sequel to the 2018 hit mystery comedy film A Simple Favor. Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively, as well as director Paul Feig, will return in the sequel.

Based on the 2017 novel of the same name, A Simple Favor told the story of Stephanie, a widowed single mother played by Kendrick. Emily, her closest friend and YouTuber in Connecticut, is someone she envies (Lively).

Emily is a successful entrepreneur who lives in opulence with her family. When Emily mysteriously disappears one day, Stephanie does her own investigation into her friend’s history, encountering a few surprises along the way.

The film was a huge commercial success for Lionsgate, grossing more than USD 97 million worldwide. Fans of the film will likely be ecstatic to learn that a sequel is on the horizon, since the first film’s finale left the door open for one. Feig will direct and produce the sequel alongside Laura Fischer, according to Deadline.

The film will be written and executive produced by Jessica Sharzer. Feigco Entertainment will produce the film. Meredith Wieck and Scott O’Brien are Lionsgate’s project managers.

On the other hand, Lively was most recently seen in Jude Law’s film The Rhythm Section. Seconds, an adaptation of Scott Pilgrim creator Bryan Lee O’Malley’s graphic novel, is also set to be her feature directorial debut. Kendrick was most recently seen in the Netflix movie Stowaway. She is most recognised for her role in the blockbuster Pitch Perfect trilogy.
