Celeste O’Connor, who starred in ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife,’ has been cast in ‘Madame Web,’ a new film from Sony’s Marvel Universe.

The character of O’Connor is yet to be revealed. According to ‘Variety,’ they will star in the comic-book adventure with Dakota Johnson, who plays the main character, and Sydney Sweeney of ‘Euphoria’ fame.

Madame Web, a clairvoyant whose psychic skills allow her to see into the spider world itself, will have her origin story told in ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife.’

Madame Web is a paralysed old woman with myasthenia gravis, a chronic autoimmune condition that requires her to be connected to a life support system that resembles a spider web in the Marvel comics.

Spider-Man and his spider friends, such as Spider-Woman, benefit significantly from her extraordinary talents. She’s never fought villains because of her condition, though.

‘Madame Web’ is directed by S.J. Clarkson, a Marvel veteran from Jessica Jones and The Defenders.

The film ‘Madame Web’ is Sony’s first modern comic book adaptation with a female lead. It’s one of numerous Spider-Man spinoffs in the works at Sony, including Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Ariana DeBose’s “Kraven the Hunter.”
