Chris Brown is only the rapper’s second UK performance in a decade after a Wizkid concert in November 2021

Chris Brown, the controversial rapper, has been added to the roster for the upcoming event Wireless, marking his first appearance in the UK in 12 years.

Brown has only performed in the United Kingdom twice since his 2010 ban; the first time was in November last year, when he played alongside Wizkid at the O2 Arena.

The festival takes place in Crystal Palace Park in London from July 1-3.

It then continues to Finsbury Park on July 8 before ending on Saturday, July 9 at Birmingham’s Outdoor at the NEC.

The festival already has an impressive lineup. With Joe Cole and Tyler, the Creator, ASAP Rocky will headline the first weekend at Crystal Palace.

SZA, Nicki Minaj and Cardi B will be performing later in the month in Finsbury Park.

“You asked? We deliver… ALWAYS,” a post on the Wireless social media channels read.

“For the first time in 12 years… @chrisbrownofficial will return to the UK to shut down Crystal Palace and Birmingham.”

“Grab these final tickets before it’s too late.”

Brown will headline both the Crystal Palace Park and Birmingham events.

The news divided the rapper’s supporters and detractors.

“Everyone loves cancel culture when it comes to cancelling women yet chris brown has just been announced to headline wireless and has a career at all????” one disgruntled Twitter user wrote.

Others, however, were enthusiastic. “Chris Brown on the radio!??? “I’ve never bought a ticket so quickly without checking the rest of the lineup,” one fan stated.

Another agreed, tweeting: “You don’t understand how fast I just got up and got them tickets… Chris brown back in the UK has made my life”.

After being banned in 2010 for allegedly beating his girlfriend Rihanna after a Grammys party in 2009, the rapper’s arrival in the UK signifies a fresh start.

The BBC reported that Brown’s visa was refused upon entry to the UK in 2010, with the Home Office writing: “We reserve the right to refuse entry to the UK to anyone guilty of a serious criminal offence. Public safety is one of our primary concerns.”
