Elon Musk disputes harassment charges as SpaceX seeks $1.7 billion in funding

Elon Musk’s rocket business SpaceX is aiming to secure $1.7 billion in new capital as its controversial creator continues to make headlines in the last week of his defamation trial against former lovers Amber Heard and Johnny Depp.

According to CNBC, citing a company-wide email received by the network, the space travel pioneer will pay $70 per share, a 25% increase over the $56 per share the shares sold for in February after a stock split.

That would value the 20-year-old corporation at $127 billion, making it the first private enterprise to take humans into space, among many other firsts.

This price has progressively risen in recent years as SpaceX has raised billions of dollars to fund construction on its next-generation Starship rocket and Starlink global satellite internet network.

Meanwhile, the independent online publication Insider claimed this week that SpaceX had paid $250,000 to settle an allegation of sexual misconduct by Musk against a SpaceX corporate aircraft attendant.

Musk, 50, has denied the claim, writing on Twitter on Thursday, “for the record, those outlandish charges are totally incorrect.”

Elon Musk was apparently dating Amber Heard at the time he harassed the SpaceX employee.
