After Bruce Willis was diagnosed with Aphasia, Emma Heming Willis opened up about her own mental health struggles.

The model told The Bump that putting her family’s needs ahead of her own took a “toll” on her “mental health.”

“I put my family’s needs above my own,” she told the outlet, “which I discovered does not make me any kind of hero.”

“Caring for everyone else in my household had taken a toll on my mental health and overall health,” Emma explained. “And no one in my family benefited from it.”

“Someone told me not long ago that when you over-care for someone, you end up under-caring for yourself,” she continued. That stopped me in my tracks and struck a chord with me.”

“I don’t mother myself perfectly, but I know I have some basic baseline needs that are a must, like first and foremost, exercise,” Emma explained, emphasising the importance of finding that “one thing” that makes you “feel good” and “building from there.”

Emma previously announced, “To Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities,” in a joint statement with the Die Hard actor’s first wife Demi Moore and daughters.

“As a result of this, and after careful consideration, Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him,” the statement continued.
