Jeremy Renner, a two-time Academy Award nominee, has allegedly been cast in an unnamed film portraying Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist David Armstrong.

Armstrong revealed the secrets of how the Sackler family and Purdue Pharma ignited a national nightmare through a compelling and risky quest. He gathered evidence that members of the Sackler family were aware of and supported Purdue’s concealment of the potency and addiction hazards of the painkiller OxyContin during the course of a four-year inquiry.

More than two hundred thousand Americans have died from prescription opioid overdoses since the debut of OxyContin.

Aron Gaudet and Gita Pullapilly, award-winning husband-and-wife filmmakers, will write and direct the film.

According to filmmakers Aron Gaudet and Gita Pullapilly, “It is an honour to team up with Jeremy and show the world the importance of watchdog journalists like David. They are truly the last check on power in any democracy.”

As per the statement said by Journalist David Armstrong, “I am gratified that a movie audience will learn of the story behind this crisis, which has ruined so many lives. I am impressed with the vision Gita and Aron have for making this film and thrilled that an actor of Jeremy’s talent and ability will be a major part of telling this story.”
